Health & Safety Manager

Verne is hiring for a Health & Safety Manager who will oversee and manage the health, safety, and environmental aspects of data center construction projects.

Type: Full Time

About the Role:

The Health & Safety Manager will oversee and manage the health, safety, and environmental aspects of data center construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring the well-being of all personnel, compliance with legal requirements, and the implementation of best practices in health and safety management. Travel to Verne data centers and data center construction is required as part of the job function.

Key Responsibilities:

Health & Safety Management:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety plans for data center construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and company policies.
  • Oversee and participate in regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, ensure compliance, and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and present regular health and safety reports to senior management and project stakeholders.

Risk Assessment & Management:

  • Oversee and participate in risk assessments and ensure that all potential hazards are identified, evaluated, and controlled.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies and mitigation plans.
  • Review and approve risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) submitted by contractors and subcontractors.

Training & Development:

  • Design and deliver health and safety training programs for all site personnel, including induction training for new employees and ongoing training for existing staff.
  • Ensure that all personnel are trained in emergency procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and safe working practices.
  • Maintain training records and ensure that all certifications are up to date.

Incident Management:

  • Lead investigations into all health and safety incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain incident records and report findings to relevant authorities as required.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and ensure that all personnel are aware of emergency procedures.

Communication & Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for health and safety issues on Verne construction sites.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure health and safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of the project.
  • Ensure that Verne development health and safety practices and standards align with the practices of Verne operations.
  • Participate in regular project meetings and provide health and safety updates and advice.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, with a focus on construction projects.
  • Prior experience managing health and safety on data center construction projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices.
  • Excellent risk assessment and management skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and health and safety management software.
